Savage Garden: Flesh To Flesh
by Tawny Taylor
cover art by Bryan Keller
ISBN (13): 978-1-60521-006-3
Genre(s): Paranormal
Theme(s): Magic and Mayhem, Gay and Lesbian
Series: Savage Garden
Length: Novella

In a savage garden dwells a dark magic…

In a matter of minutes, Dr. Noble Cavanaugh’s life is ruined. A stupid mistake costs an innocent woman her life and leaves her child an orphan. As she dies, she calls upon a powerful mage, demanding justice for Noble’s crime.

There are no police. No trial. No jury. Only the worst kind of punishment for the former doctor -- total isolation. From all human contact. From the world. From light and sound and touch. From life.

But once every year Noble is freed from his prison, and he spends three bittersweet days with his devoted partner and lover, Sayer Lyon. They touch. Laugh. And weep. And then at sunrise, he returns to his prison to wait another year for the fall equinox.

This is how it’s been for five years, and this is how it will be for many more. At least, that’s what Noble and Sayer both think.

This year things will be different.

In a savage garden lies a man’s only hope for redemption.

Excerpt:

“Mrs. Wickham is complaining again. She says the baby’s coming, and she needs to push.”

Dr. Noble Cavanaugh swallowed a growl of frustration, gave Adam, the young, hot intern he’d been chatting with, a don’t-go-anywhere look and did a one-eighty to face the nurse behind him. Maryanne was fresh out of nursing school and thus lacking the experience to know Mrs. Wickham couldn’t possibly be ready to deliver. She meant well, but she was driving him nuts, coming to him every few minutes with a question or concern or problem. “Mrs. Wickham is a first-time mother, and she was at two centimeters when I checked her a half hour ago. Any other signs that her labor’s progressing?”

“Nope.” Maryanne glanced down at the chart. “Contractions are still three minutes apart, and the baby’s heart rate’s steady.”

Noble checked his pager. Eight hours to go. Eight more loooong hours. “Okay, then I’ll be in to check on her in a half hour. Page me if anything changes. I’m going to run down to the cafeteria and grab something to eat.”

“Will do.” Chart clutched to her chest, Maryanne ran off. Noble waited for her to round the corner before he turned back toward the intern.

Mmmm, mmmm.

Adam was beyond tempting, with his fierce body, picture-perfect face -- which haunted Noble’s dreams every fucking night -- brilliant mind, and promising future. Noble had noticed the intern right away. He wasn’t the only one. Every nurse on the floor had too. Patients. Staff. The kid left a wake of heated smiles trailing behind him every time he walked down a hallway.

And damn if Adam didn’t know he was hot too. That cocky I-know-I-got-it attitude only made the guy that much more tempting. Since the first day Adam stepped into Mercer Hospital and caused all kinds of scandal, Noble longed to shove the intern to his knees and wipe that grin off his face. A third-year resident with a stellar record and promising future himself, Noble had always kept his sex life separate from work, for a number of reasons. But guys like Adam made it a hell of a challenge.

He glanced at his pager again. It was going to be one long effing night. “Where are you headed tonight?”

Adam shrugged, giving Noble a look that said wherever you want. “Why? You want me to go down to the cafeteria with you? Or did you have something else in mind?”

“Mrs. Wickham is the only patient in Labor and Delivery right now. And I told Maryanne I’d be back in a half hour… Oh, hell!” Unable to resist the temptation, Noble yanked open the supply closet door. “Come here.” He caught Adam’s wrist, jerked him inside, slammed the door, and pivoting, crushed Adam’s body against it.

Adam tilted his head up, giving Noble a seductive half-smile, and Noble’s willpower snapped. He crushed his mouth over Adam’s, gliding his tongue across the intern’s lips, and ground his hips against Adam’s leg.

The intern opened his mouth, suckling Noble’s tongue, and slid his hands between their bodies to cup the bulge in Noble’s pants.

“Oh fuck, yes.” A hungry moan swept up Noble’s throat.

What a surprise!

Animal Urges was reviewed in the Romantic Times magazine this month.

"Both tales entertain with strong characters, action, a bit of humor and hot sex scenes."

I'll take it!

Thanks to Gail Pruszkowski for the unexpected review!

PW publishes another article about erotic fiction.

On today's Publisher's Weekly blog: The New E- in Erotica: Digital delivery helps boost the readership and sales.

Interesting article! Glad to see the ebook industry get more media. From personal experience, ebook sales are slowly building, but wouldn't it be wonderful to see them really take off?

Sex sells—and always has—so why, in the realm of erotica, has sex sold surprisingly more during the past few years? Is it the ho-hum economy? The war on terror? It's the Internet, stupid: empowering readers, writers and publishers of erotica, and offering instant access to a lively, diverse and ever-growing community. Only in the past few years have major romance publishers taken notice.

Read the article HERE.

Bodice rippers are my ultimate escape?

How I adore sanctimonious, prejudice statements like that.

Where'd I stumble upon this one? On the MSNBC network's Today blog. They slipped a one-question "unscientific" poll in the middle of chapter one of Danielle Steel's new book. The question itself seems simple enough--Do you read romance novels? But it's the response choices that steam my kettle.

A. "Bodice rippers are my ultimate escape." (I haven't read about a ripped bodice in years. I guess I'm reading the wrong books.)

B. "No way. I don't touch those books." (I heard you can get an STD by touching them. You know, like sitting on a public toilet. Seriously.)

Or for the reader who is too embarrassed to admit she has a whole room full of bookshelves crammed to capacity with those ridiculous "bodice rippers", but isn't in total denial...

C. "Sometimes, while on vacation or at the beach."

I mean, come on! Who wrote this (shit) poll?

But at least MSNBC's ignorance made for some fun reading this morning. Check out the Smart Bitches poll about NBC's poll. LOL

Help an author in need

Doing my part to help spread the word...

*Forwarded with Permission*
Dear Friends,

One of our own, author Jo Leigh (aka Jolie Kramer) lost her husband on June 13 after he courageously battled cancer. If you don't know their story which is the stuff romance novels are made of, you can read it here: http://www.joleigh.com/blog/archives/00000121.html and see their wedding picture here: http://www.alisonkent.com/blog/archives/1232

In addition to being a fabulous friend to so many and a mulit-RITA nominated author who has written for Harlequin Blaze, Temptation, Intrigue, Special Projects, Silhouette Intimate Moments and Meteor Kismet, Jo is known across the country for the amazing writing classes she teaches, including one on plotting that is incomparable. She has been incredibly generous to so many in sharing her knowledge and expertise.

Unfortunately, Jo has been left with a lot of medical expenses she will be struggling to cover as they had no health insurance, and we would like to help her out by holding several fundraising auctions. If you have items to donate - books or book baskets/collections, critiques, ARCs of upcoming releases, mentoring opportunities, web or promotional material design work etc., please email the item description to the following email address: forjoleigh@gmail.com This is the address we're using to organize the items.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

"…In the outer reaches of the Crab Nebula, in a godforsaken corner of the sprawling Milky Way galaxy, lies Asteroid 6969, depleted of its resources. Those who can afford to leave have gone. The town has become a den of iniquity—law and order have vanished. Travelers are advised caution when entering the area. The Federation has removed Asteroid 6969 from its jurisdiction. Anything that happens there is your own problem…"
- From The Revised Galactic Dictionary, section fifteen "Asteroids", appendix A

Tiger Gold by Samantha Winston

As soon as Captain Lance Rocket arrives on Asteroid 6969, he knows he's going to have problems. Not because of the bath in the bordello, but because of an auction. A young woman had been auctioned off to the highest bidder. The winner, some sadist pirate, is torturing her on the other side of the wall. What can a space captain do? He gets out of the tub and, stark naked except for his stun-gun, breaks the door down. And sees Heidi handcuffed to the bed. She's naked. She's got huge gray eyes, red-gold hair, and a body to damn a saint. Now he's really in trouble…

Siren's Dance By Tawny Taylor

Nik Nyuth, about to inherit his father's intergalactic shipping corporation, has come to the infamous Asteroid 6969 to taste the forbidden.

Shaya Maureau, a dancer who has paid dearly for early mistakes in life, wants to leave Asteroid 6969. But, she can't afford to buy her freedom and knows the lure of an "easy" escape is fraught with danger. Surrounded by evil, she strives to protect herself by trusting no one and hiding her only remaining possession—her face—behind a protective veil.

The moment they meet, Nik is spellbound by the mysterious dancer with the veil. But earning her trust will be nearly impossible. Fortunately for Shaya, Nik's powers of persuasion are as potent as…the siren's dance.

Praise for Veiled Pleasures

"This is a wonderfully erotic story that will leave you believing that dreams do come true when trust and love are allowed to flourish. " Euro Reviews

"At first glance you may think this is a fluffy erotic-sex tale. Although the erotic love scenes leave nothing to the imagination, there’s more to the story. Don’t be misled; there is depth in Shaya and Nik’s characters and a few surprises along the way." Fallen Angel Reviews

I have a new obsession

I discovered the Showtime series, The Tudors. I swear, I've watched 8 episodes in two days. The filming is just spectacular. The drama. The writing. Top rate. History has never been so intoxicating (and erotic).

I see they've taken a few liberties with history, but that's okay. I'm loving the series. And I swear, they couldn't have cast a better man to play Henry VIII.

Any other The Tudors addicts out there? Or, conversely, anyone HATE the series?

I did it!

Sorry, this has nothing to do with writing. It has everything to do with being a mother who has absolutely no time to fool with her hair and makeup. And really, in the summertime, who wants to play around with blowdriers, straighteners, etc?

What did I do, you ask? I chopped off my hair. Literally. I took a pair of scissors yesterday, stood in front of the bathroom mirror, and lopped off at least six inches. I'm now sporting a chin-length bob that is uber easy to style and is cute and sassy. The hubby says it makes me look younger. Bonus!

Now, I'm ready for summer. Almost. If only I could discover a miracle cure for bored and bickering kids :)

Check out this new Diva release!

It has SEX FAIRIES in it. How hot is that? Love the premise. Lovelovelove the cover. I'm moving this one to the top of my TBB list.

Photobucket
A cult of sex faeries start taking men hostage…including Claire’s boyfriend.

Book Two of the Curtain Torn Series

When Myrna Terrence’s husband is abducted from her dream by fairies, she asks Claire for help. Claire investigates and discovers other married men of Four Corners have been kidnapped. Men who share enough similarities to suggest the kidnappings may be related.

She learns the abductions are the work of The Aeval, a cult of sex faeries whose mission is to ensure women are pleasured by their husbands. Dell decides he and Claire should go under cover—under the covers. By pretending to be a married couple who are having trouble in bed, they hope to lure The Aeval to them.

The plan works almost too well. They don’t have to fake the chemistry between them, nor the resulting frustration when they stop themselves from going too far. The Aeval take the bait, and Claire must confront a goddess, the truth, and her fears about Dell in an effort to save his life.

But if she succeeds, those same truths may be what sends him out of her life forever.

Warning: this title contains the following: hot nekkid men with wings, regular nudity, and prolonged sexual tension followed—finally—by explicit sex. And the faeries who punish husbands for not “pleasing” their wives are entirely fictional (sorry!).

Excerpt available...here

And you can buy it here

"Ms. Hart has created a beautiful, romantic love story set within a magical world that is both whimsical and crystalline pure. The chemistry between her two main characters is spellbinding and ethereal." - Cerri Ellis

Playing with Photoshop

Some of you know I love sewing costumes, but many don't realize I'm also a closet Photoshop geek. For the most part, I've kept my obsession a secret because it's taken me a loooong time to learn how to make semi-respectable artwork with it. I work with a mouse, rather than one of those nifty drawing pads, an ancient version of Photoshop, and the very basic brushes.

But recently, at the encouragement of some Diva friends, I've started trying some new things.

Here are a couple of my efforts.

This first one is a mock book cover, created with a stock image available from Dreamstime.com. The wings come from user Adaae-stock at www.deviantart.com.

This mock book cover represents my first efforts at photo manipulation. I'm sure the professionals would have tons of suggestions for how to improve it, but for a first try, I think it's pretty good.

The second one is a mock cover for my upcoming Changeling Press book, Flesh to Flesh. I used stock images from www.istockphoto.com for this piece and layered in some hand painted swirls to create depth and soften the look.

I was hugely flattered to learn that Changeling Press was going to use this mock-up as a guide in creating the final cover (which is in the blog entry below). The final artwork is amazing.

Are there any other Photoshop geeks out there? Want to give me some pointers? Or share some links to some handy tutorials, nifty brushes, or other tools?

I would be extremely grateful!

Cover Brag!

I just received the cover for Flesh to Flesh, the debut book in my new erotic series, Savage Garden, and all I can say is WOW! It's a work of art. Seriously.

Check it out.

******

This book releases in the end of June, from Changeling Press. I can't wait! Not just because the cover art is amazing, but because I feel the story is very special. It's a short novella, but extremely emotionally intense. I'm anxious to see how readers respond to it.
